Connecting Medical Education and Practice: IUS and BIMA Visit Çam ve Sakura Hospital
IUS Vice-Rector for Academic and Students’ Affairs Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tarik Namas joined a team of doctors and volunteers from the Medical Association in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIMA) for a visit to Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura Hospital in Türkiye. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange experiences, explore clinical facilities and discuss possibilities for further cooperation.
As one of Türkiye’s largest and most modern hospitals, Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura holds particular relevance for IUS’s growing medical education programs. It is part of the hospital network affiliated with the University of Health Sciences (SBU), where students enrolled in the Medicine and Dental Medicine double diploma programs offered jointly by IUS and SBU have opportunities for clinical education and training.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Gurhan Çelik, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sümeyye Çakmak and their medical and support teams. Alongside a general hospital tour, participants visited specialist departments and facilities, including emergency care, pediatrics, laboratories, inpatient wards and radiology. These visits offered insights into the hospital’s clinical practice, patient care and day-to-day operations.
The program also featured presentations on the hospital’s work and BIMA’s longstanding volunteer activities. Discussions explored potential areas for expanded collaboration, bringing together perspectives from higher education, clinical practice and volunteer medical service.
For IUS, the visit offered a closer look at the clinical environment available to its future doctors and dentists, while creating connections that could support further academic and professional exchange.
IUS and BIMA extend their sincere gratitude to the hospital’s hosts and staff for their generous hospitality, openness in sharing their expertise and dedication to patient care.
